The University of Houston is seeking volunteers to assist Yates
High School in encouraging dropouts to return to school. The
high school will participate in the Houston Independent School
District’s third annual Reach Out to Dropouts Day on Aug.
26. Last year, more than 1,500 volunteers fanned out into neighborhoods
around 16 high schools, helping bring 49 dropouts back to school
immediately. More than 1,300 dropouts returned to school and
207 graduated. This year, UH faculty, staff and students have
been asked to help Yates High School reach out to even more
at-risk students.
