On April 30, the University of Houston community will take
steps once again to help the March of Dimes. The campus will
serve as one of the city’s four WalkAmerica sites.
This year’s walk will begin at 9 a.m., with the start/finish
line located in front of Entrance 14 on Cullen Boulevard. UH
President Jay Gogue will host a brief reception at 8 a.m. at
the university’s tent near Robertson Stadium. At last
year’s walk, UH teams raised more than $15,000.
“This year, UH’s goal is to involve as many students,
faculty and staff in WalkAmerica as possible,” said Juanita
Jackson, campus WalkAmerica logistics coordinator. “Hosting
the event allows the university to provide leadership in the
community, to expose thousands of people to campus and to help
raise funds for this very worthwhile and needy cause.”
The March of Dimes, whose mission is to improve the health
of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant
mortality, held its first walk in 1970. Since then, the event
has raised more than $1.5 billion.
For more information on how to participate, please contact
a March of Dimes representative in your academic deans/division
administrators’ office or contact Jackson at 713-743-5385
