PROVOST'S CORE TEACHING EXCELLENCE AWARD
SUSAN COLLINS RULES
For students of Susan Collins, political science and
Honors College assistant professor, it was no contest. Collins deserved
and was awarded a 2005 Provost’s Core Teaching Excellence
Award.
“For all their necessary commitment to professional
training, students still long for the humanizing education that
is the university’s great tradition,” Collins wrote
in her personal statement.
Sarah Neal, her former teaching assistant, said that
her mentor has equipped her with tools to effectively teach her
own classes.
In an evaluation form, one student sums it up best,
“Professor Collins rules.”
The award consists of $5,000 and a trophy. Nominees
must be tenured/tenure-track faculty demonstrating excellence in
teaching a core curriculum course.
