JOHN AND REBECCA MOORES PROFESSOR
HAROLD BEDELL’S EXPERTISE
BRINGS RECOGNITION
Harold E. Bedell, a professor of physiological optics and vision
sciences for more than 20 years, has been awarded a John and Rebecca
Moores Professor.
Students and colleagues alike have long recognized his passion.
“He has contributed to establishing national guidelines for
defining congenital nystagmus, and his research is first-rate and
followed closely by his peers,” said Dr. R. John Leigh, Dorothy
R. Blair and Robert B. Daroff Professor of Neurology at Case Western
University. “He is one of perhaps three experts in his field
in the world.”
“The most gratifying aspect of teaching is seeing students
succeed in their chosen careers,” Bedell said. “A student’s
success is even more gratifying if it can be attributed in part
to the use of information or ideas that you provided as an instructor.”
The professorship is a five-year renewable award that carries a
$10,000 annual stipend and is given to faculty members who are outstanding
in teaching, research and service.
