PROFESSOR EMERITUS, STAFF MEMBER
PASS AWAY
A retired University of Houston
faculty member and the first director of UH’s University Center
(UC) passed away recently.
Both Professor Emeritus Peter Guenther, 85, chair of the Department
of Art in the 1960s and 1970s, and William D. “Bill”
Scott, 85, former director of the UC and associate dean of students,
died last week.
Guenther retired in 1994, after serving on the art
department’s faculty for more than 30 years. He taught such
classes as iconography and expressionism during his tenure at UH.
In lieu of flowers, donations can made to UH’s
Peter Guenther Scholarship Endowment Fund, which provides travel
grants or tuition scholarships for students majoring in art history.
Contributions should be sent to the School of Art, attention Pat
Deeves.
Scott, who began his career at UH in 1964, assisted
in designing the UC. He retired from the university in 1984. In
lieu of flowers, his family asks that memorials be sent to the St.
Joseph Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 1919, Houston, Texas 77251-1919
or www.sjhf-hou.org/donate.
