UH TO HOST WALKAMERCIA

To the University of Houston Community:

On May 1, our campus will host tens of thousands of Houstonians of all ages for the annual March of Dimes “WalkAmerica.” This event allows our students, faculty, and staff to showcase our campus while participating in a highly successful fundraising project. Last year, our faculty and staff, along with their families and friends, raised nearly $14,000.

Finding the causes for premature births is one of the main goals of the March of Dimes. One out of eight babies is born prematurely in this country. Premature births pose serious health risks for babies and result in high costs for their families and for society. The March of Dimes needs our help in the search for solutions to these problems.

Please see your college or division WalkAmerica team captain to sign up to walk or to make a donation. You can also contact Juanita Jackson, assistant to the vice president for student affairs, who is coordinating the university’s participation. You may contact Juanita by email at jjackson@central.uh.edu or by telephone at 713-743-5385.

We will have a special tent at Robertson Stadium for all of our walkers, which will also serve as the site for a victory party at the end of the walk. We’ll start serving juice and snacks at the tent at 8 a.m., with the walk starting at 9 a.m.

The start/finish line will be the intersection of Cullen Boulevard and Holman Street. I’ll be there, and I hope you can join me.

Sincerely,
Jay Gogue
University of Houston President
