STAFF COUNCIL ELECTIONS TO BE HELD AUG. 4

University of Houston staff members soon will have the opportunity to select several new campus leaders.

UH’s Staff Council is holding its elections Aug. 4. Staff members can cast their votes online at the Staff Council election Web site, http://www.uh.edu/sc/voting/, from any computer with Internet access between 6 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on that day.

Votes also may be cast at polls located on campus (see sidebar for voting locations and times).

Campus Polling Sites

General Services Building – Area 17, Room 283, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

E. Cullen Building – First Floor Lobby, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

University Business Park - Building 3, Room 273, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.


Voters must be benefits-eligible and will be required to present their Cougar 1Card when voting in person. If voting online, a Cougar 1Card number will also be required.

Voters may only cast votes for the open positions within their respective divisions and will only be allowed to vote once.

“Let your voices be heard,” said Joe Papick, director of the Child Welfare Education Project in the Graduate School of Social Work and incoming Staff Council president. “Help select the new council member of your choice. Take this opportunity to be a part of the process that allows staff members to provide input on important issues such as raises and staff scholarships.”

    • Mary Douglas, director of placement services – Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel & Restaurant Management
    • Sharon M. Gates, advising assistant – Department of Chemical Engineering
    • Charles Henry, business administrator – College of Pharmacy
    • Jeanie Langston, convocation coordinator/administrative assistant – College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences
    • Ann M. McFarland, director of the Office of Community Projects – Graduate School of Social Work
    • Mary Schulz, academic advising specialist – Cullen College of Engineering
    • Leslie Thornhill, academic advisor – C.T. Bauer College of Buisness
    • Patti Tolar, academic affairs coordinator – Department of Psychology
    • Susan Williams, administrative assistant - College of Optometry

Administration and Finance (one position open)

    • Walter Rodriguez, deputy fire marshal - Department of Public Safety

Information Technology (one position open)

    • Karl Bernard, information technology security analyst – Security and Disaster Recovery
