UH FACULTY, STAFF
PREPARE TO TAKE THE FIELD
Beginning in June, the intramural
fields at the intersection of Cullen and Elgin will help some University
of Houston faculty and staff rekindle their glory days while giving
others a reason to laugh. The faculty and staff intramural softball
league will play their first games June 3.
Faculty and staff interested in turning a 6-4-3
double play, making a diving catch or watching co-workers try not
to embarrass themselves need to act quickly.
The league is open to all UH faculty and staff.
For those wanting to shed a few pounds or for those looking for
a way to beat those summertime blues, the league provides the perfect
solution.
“Playing softball is fun way to relieve a
little stress and meet new people,” said Angie Joe, senior
writer in the Office of External Communications.
Completed team rosters must be e-mailed to Steve
Waden, assistant director of intramural sports, by noon June 1.
Rosters must include a team name, the team manager’s
e-mail address and telephone number, each player’s first and
last names, and each player’s Cougar One ID number. Spouses
listed on the roster need to include their driver’s license
number.
All games will be played at 5:45 p.m. every Thursday
throughout June and the first week of July. A single-elimination
tournament will follow.
Last year’s league, which included the teams
Campus Rec, UH Downtown, Physical Wreck, Engineering/KUHT, Admissions
and Physical Plant 2, was marred by rainouts, and many of the games
had to be rescheduled. Returning players are hoping Mother Nature
is on their side this year.
“Last year was frustrating with all of the
rainouts, so we are looking forward to better weather this year,”
Joe said.
A manager’s meeting will be held at 5:15 p.m.
June 2 at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center to help answer
players’ questions.
