PAPICK NAMED STAFF COUNCIL PRESIDENT;
SET TO TAKE OFFICE IN FALL
This fall, the University of
Houston’s Staff Council will have new leadership.
Stepping into the position of president will be
Joe Papick, director of the Child Welfare Education Project in the
Graduate School of Social Work.
“One of my main goals is simply continuing
the excellent work of the current president Angie Shortt and past
president, Jeff Fuller,” Papick said. “I also will look
at issues that were addressed in the recent staff survey, particularly
those related to career development, compensation, management, training
and staff excellence.”
Papick joined the UH staff in 1999 and was elected
to Staff Council in 2002. Presently, he is the Staff Council’s
secretary and serves on the Staff Affairs and Events committees.
“When I started working at UH, I wanted to
learn as much as I could about the university and the system,”
he said. “I thought a good way to do that was by becoming
involved with Staff Council and working alongside staff members
from other departments and colleges.”
Papick will assume the responsibilities of president
on Sept. 1. Current president, Angie Shortt, director of communications
for the Cullen College of Engineering will continue to lend her
support to the council.
“I am very excited about Joe taking on the
role of president of Staff Council in September,” Shortt said.
“As a current officer in the organization, he will be able
to effectively continue the initiatives we've started the past few
years. We've had many successes this year and I know he'll take
Staff Council to the next level.”
