Appreciation picnic offers staff
afternoon of food, fun
University of Houston faculty members aren’t
the only ones who deserve a little break from the hustle and bustle
of campus life.
On May 19, UH staff members will be treated to the
Staff Appreciation Picnic from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Cullen
Family Plaza, the area adjacent to the Ezekiel Cullen Building and
Cullen Fountain.
From horseshoes to putt-putt golf to darts, there
will be a variety of games and events staff members can enjoy.
A Tex-Mex menu by longtime UH donor Frankie Mandola
will tempt taste buds while music provided by a local deejay may
get some staff members on their feet.
All benefits-eligible staff members will receive
an invitation to the picnic and will be required to present the
invitation and a valid UH identification card upon entering the
event.
President Jay Gogue will recognize the recipients
of the Staff Excellence Awards and the C.F. McElhinney Distinguished
Service Award.
This year’s recipient of the McElhinney award
is Ona Underhill, a business administrator in the Department of
Facilities Planning and Construction.
Staff Excellence Award winners are: Amanda Vaughn,
academic adviser, Department of Computer Science; Pamela Forbes,
library supervisor, College of Optometry Library; Greta Ott, office
assistant 1, Department of Curriculum and Instruction; Sharon Gates,
academic adviser 2, Department of Chemical Engineering; Johnnie
King, laborer supervisor 1, Physical Plant; and Charles Snow, heating,
ventilation and air conditioning mechanic, Department of Residential
Life and Housing.
“These awards represent a meaningful and tangible
way to acknowledge and reward our staff employees for their hard
work and dedication to the university,” said Robert Herrington,
assistant vice president for human resources.
