EARLY BIRD PRIZES
SET FOR FACULTY AND STAFF CAMPAIGN
The winter holidays are several months off, but
thanks to the University of Houston’s Faculty and Staff Campaign,
the season of giving began this week.
The campaign allows faculty and staff to donate
to the UH colleges, departments and programs of their choice. Those
who make contributions before May 14 are eligible for early bird
prize drawings.
This year’s university-wide early bird prizes
include:
- A yearlong pass to the UH Campus Recreation and
Wellness Center.
- A barbecue dinner for six prepared by Spencer
Yantis, associate vice president of University Advancement, at
his home.
- A “Grill on the Hill”
picnic and an afternoon out at a Cougar baseball game for staff
members hosted by Angie Shortt, Staff Council president and director
of communications for the Cullen College of Engineering.
- A UH Spirit Gift Basket donated by Nancy Clark,
director of donor relations.
- A wine tasting event for faculty members hosted
by Giles Auchmuty, Faculty Senate president and professor of mathematics.
Other gifts are specific to faculty and staff members
in specific colleges, departments and divisions. They include home
baked pastries, gourmet coffee, home cooked meals, donuts and an
assortment of other personalized items.
“We wanted some of these gifts to be very
personal,” said Shortt. “That’s why many of the
gifts at the college, department or division are baked or handmade
items. This campaign is very personal. It is something that is good
for the university and it’s our way of supporting it.”
