Sang-Hoon “Shawn” Lee
TEACHING EXCELLENCE AWARD
LEE ENGINEERS EXCELLENCE IN
STUDENTS
Sang-Hoon “Shawn” Lee, assistant professor of engineering
technology, has a teaching philosophy that doesn’t confine
his lessons to a book or classroom.
Since Lee arrived at the University of Houston in 2003, he has
engineered his classes to help students sharpen their powers of
observation and adjust to new environments. Not only do his students
grasp the concepts or theories of his classes, they also learn
the skills to continue learning and improving themselves.
One student wrote in a letter of support, “Shawn’s
best asset is the way he motivates students. He is extremely positive
and challenges us to work ‘outside the box.’ Simply
put, Shawn makes learning fun.”
Recipients of the Teaching Excellence Award receive a trophy and
a $5,000 check. Nominees must demonstrate excellence in teaching.
