Douglas E. Hughes
TEACHING EXCELLENCE AWARD FOR GRADUATE TEACHING
ASSISTANT
THE “Es” HAVE IT
IN HUGHES’ CLASS
Douglas E. Hughes applies three “Es” to
his teaching style: engage, enlighten and empower. Another “E”
factors into Hughes’ professional selling lectures in the C.T.
Bauer College of Business – experience.
A recipient of the Teaching Excellence Award for graduate teaching
assistant, Hughes is a former sales and marketing executive for Miller
Brewing, Nabisco and Coca-Cola. He relates stories from the field
to classroom discussions and assignments. Students have reacted enthusiastically
to both his teaching style and his knowledge of business practices.
“The most important thing I learned was not taught in class
but in the way in which Hughes taught the class,” said one student.
“Sincerity, coupled with passion, convey a believable and empowering
message. His zeal for life is infectious, and I believe his most effective
teaching quality.” Awards of $1,000 and a trophy are presented
to two graduate students each year.
