We have recently shipped containers of books to India, Swaziland, Pakistan, and South Africa. You can play a part in this large Education/Literacy project which is changing the world. Come help us sort books by language (English/Spanish/French, etc), stack books into cardboard boxes, place the boxes of books on pallets, and shrink wrap the pallets. Rotarians will then arrange for the pallets to be sent to a warehouse in La Porte, loaded into 40' export containers , delivered to the Port of Houston, shipped via ocean freight, unloaded by Rotarians and then given...free of charge...to students and teachers in schools in other countries that need these books. Please wear closed-toe shoes (no sandals) - Some of the boxes might be dusty, so prepare to get a little dirty. For more information, see http://www.rotarybooksfortheworld.org/

BIKE HELMET SAFETY DAY

Rotary wants to ensure Texas children are doing all they can to stay safe. Wearing a bicycle helmet, and wearing it correctly, is a simple way to prevent injury. Head injury is the most common cause of death and serious disability from bike crashes. Bicycle helmets can reduce the risk of head injury by as much as 85 percent, yet only about 50 percent of cyclists wear a helmet when they ride. Even fewer wear them correctly. We are reaching out to UH students to come help give away over 100 helmets and help run a few kid activities. This event will be located at Gethsemane Campus of St. Luke's UMC at 6856 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, TX 77074.
