Vocational Assessment tools can tell you a lot about yourself, including things you aren’t aware of or haven’t thought much about. They may also verify what you already know. In general, they are designed to:
Focus 2 is an innovative approach to career exploration and planning. This online tool is customized to connect your assessment results to the University of Houston's majors.
Focus 2 guides you through a reliable decision making model to help you make informed career decisions and take action.
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) was designed to help people choose careers that would be interesting to them and would call on their natural preferences. The MBTI can help you understand yourself and how you interact with the workplace.
It is extremely useful in helping people make career decisions, select an appropriate work environment and communicate and sell themselves effectively. Also, it helps in building teams, developing time management skills, understanding learning styles, leadership, and management types. It will clarify how people interact with their supervisors, colleagues, mate and family.
If you are interested in taking the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, please schedule an appointment through Cougar Pathway for a pre-assessment meeting and to get instructions for taking the assessment online. There is a fee of $15 for the assessment which can be paid online only by credit or debit card only with a link that will be provided by the career counselor at the time that you receive the assessment instructions. Once you have paid and taken the assessment, please request an appointment with a career counselor by visiting Log into Cougar Pathway (required log in) to review the interpretation results.
The Strong Interest Inventory (Strong) matches you, based on your likes and dislikes, with individuals who share your interests to determine if you might enjoy the same kinds of careers. You are provided with a combination of general interest scales which provide an overall picture of your preferences, values, and interests; basic interest scales that further narrow your interests and desirable aspects of potential careers (such as writing, public speaking, computers, or teaching); and a Top 10 list of careers that encourages further exploration.
If you are interested in taking the Strong Interest Inventory, please schedule an appointment for a pre-assessment through Cougar Pathway and to get instructions for taking the assessment online. Once you have taken the assessment, please request an appointment with a career counselor by visiting Log into Cougar Pathway (required log in) for the interpretation. StrengthsQuest is an online assessment that will help you gain insight into your areas of greatest potential. StrengthsQuest is not a career assessment and it won't tell you what job or career you should do. It does provide valuable information about who you are and gives you clues to the type of work environment in which you are most likely to thrive. Gallup research has found that employees who have the opportunity to use their strengths are six times as likely to be engaged in their work and more than three times as likely to report having an excellent quality of life than employees who don't get to focus on what they do best.
If you are interested in taking StrengthsQuest, please schedule an appointment with a career counselor through Cougar Pathway for instructions on taking the assessment. Your assessment code for StrengthsQuest and a payment link will be provided by a career counselor. There is a fee of $15 for the assessment which can be paid by credit or debit card only.
