Monica Thompson was appointed the Executive Director of UCS on July 7, 2014. She joins the University of Houston from The University of Texas at Austin, where she was the Assistant Director of Internal Operations and Student Services, as well as Career Course Manager and BA 101 Lecturer for BBA Career Services, at the McCombs School of Business.
Thompson’s career spans over 20 years in higher education, recruiting, and human resources. While at UT, Thompson utilized comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge of organizational design, change management, project management, team development, leadership development, talent management and instructional design to contribute to the overall management and leadership of the McCombs BBA Career Services center. She is passionate about developing today’s students into tomorrow’s leaders while delivering operational excellence as the Executive Director of University Career Services at the University of Houston. “I cultivated professional development opportunities for 4,500 undergraduate business students annually at UT-Austin’s business career services, ranked second in the nation,” said Thompson. “I am excited to join the University of Houston at the most exciting time to be in Houston. Over the past year, Tiffany’s dedication to outreach, expanding campus-wide partnerships and promoting professional development opportunities for the career consortium have exemplified her passion for service to UH students, faculty, and staff. As the new associate director of UCS, Tiffany will continue to cultivate campus-wide partnerships by fostering relationships with faculty, staff, and student leaders from all academic programs. She is charged with effective delivering comprehensive career services to UH students including bridging resources across divisions, and building networks with Exploratory Studies, Academic Advising Center, faculty members, university student organizations and other key university entities to increase awareness of career development services
Tiffany joined UCS in 2014 as a career counselor and liaison for the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and Pre-Health professions. During this time, Tiffany has directly impacted UCS in the areas of building partnerships and implementing student services programs at UH. Her successful leadership in the rebranding of UCS through targeted marketing and communications for campus-wide career fairs, and events such as Professional Discovery Week, NSM Career Fair Prep Week, Mock Interview Series, and Resume/CV skills series for the College of Pharmacy, have directly increased awareness of UCS services for freshmen through alumni.
Prior to UH, Tiffany’s diverse higher education experience since 2004 includes cultivating strategic partnerships with campus entities as well as providing leadership to advising teams. She is passionate about student success and is looking forward to expanding UCS’ awareness and building upon UH initiatives. Tiffany holds both a Master of Science in Counseling with an emphasis in Student Development in Higher Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State University, Long Beach.
Cynthia Olmedo joined the University Career Services (UCS) team as the assistant director of Alumni Career Services in April 2015. She assists UCS leadership in providing career development assistance to UH alumni seeking assistance with their job search. Additionally, she will facilitate awareness of services with an emphasis on developing new employment opportunities for UH alumni in the greater Houston community.
Cynthia graduated with a Bachelor of Science from UH. As a UH student, she had the opportunity to live on-campus and work for the university as a switchboard operator. Cynthia later earned her Master of Business Administration. She has over ten years of experience as an employment counselor improving workforce development opportunities within the Texas Workforce Commission agency including unemployment services, youth programs, and workforce training opportunities. She previously served as a career counselor for the University of Houston College of Technology.
Priyanka has close to 7 years of experience providing career counseling to students from all majors. She holds graduate degrees in Clinical Psychology from University of Pune, India and Mental Health Counseling from University of Kansas. Priyanka is the liaison to College of Education, Graduate School of Social Work, and supports UH Pre-Health majors. She is also passionate about assisting International students in their transition to and out of UH. She is an active member of the National Career Development Association’s International Student Committee.
Priyanka can assist by reviewing resumes, discussing internship and job search strategies, conducting mock interviews, guiding graduate school application process, and resolving any other career related questions or concerns.
Caitlin MacNeil joins UCS as a Career Counselor and liaison for the Cullen College of Engineering, the College of Natural Science and Mathematics and the College of Technology. Prior to joining the UCS team Caitlin worked as a live-in Residence Life professional and she has advised prospective, current and alumni graduate students as an Academic Advisor for Engineering. Through her unique work experiences, she has developed a strong understanding of academic procedures and policies as well as the multifaceted developmental needs of college students. She is dedicated to helping students achieve their professional goals through academic planning, career exploration, and job search preparation. Caitlin earned her Master’s in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana and her Bachelors in Marketing from Davenport University in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Zach Wortzel joins University Career Services with over three years of experience in Student Affairs, including over two years at the University of Houston. As a Career Counselor for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLASS), Zach works to help CLASS students develop their career interests and skills, and cultivate strong partnerships within CLASS, while continuing to increase the presence of University Career Services.
Zach previously served as the Coordinator of First and Second Year Programming for Student Housing and Residential Life at the University of Houston. In this role, he planned and executed the curriculums for the First and Second Year Residential Experience programs, along with fostering campus relationships to ensure quality in-hall programming. He also was involved in the Division of Student Affairs while serving as a member of the Weeks of Welcome and Family Weekend Committees.
Zach holds a Bachelors of Arts in History and Secondary Education from Syracuse University, along with a Masters of Education in Student Personnel in Higher Education from the University of Florida.
Ayo Ogunye joins University Career Services (UCS) as the Alumni Career Counselor and liaison for the School of Communication with over 10 years of experience providing professional development assistance and career counseling to secondary and post-secondary students.
Ayo holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, and a Masters of Arts in Professional Counseling from Central Michigan University. With her passion for lifelong learning education and professional development, she recently completed a Project Management Certification training and is currently enrolled in a Master of Business Administration program at the University of Houston Victoria.
Ayo previously provided career services to Workforce Development programs in the following areas: youth development, dislocated worker retraining, career assessment test administration, financial aid and workforce vocational training opportunities for several years. She was also recognized for providing supportive services to employees and employers in the Houston Galveston area.
She has a passion for empowering individuals to realize their potential while developing actionable and attainable job search plans. Ayo has a unique work history that includes working with diverse groups locally and internationally, in the areas of professional development, job retention, job development and employment services. Her background and experience has provided her with a set of skills to aid career services in the areas of resume writing, mock interviews, networking, career event preparation and development of related job search workshops. Ayo believes that with the right plan, tools and encouragement, an individual can attain any goal they set for themselves.

Employer Relations Coordinator
As Employer Relations Coordinator, Lauren serves as the primary point of contact for employers, and helps guide employers through the recruiting process. She is creating awareness among corporate and community organizations as to the benefits of hiring U of H students and graduates, and of the services of UCS.
