I am a student-athlete who is a hard worker and believes in always putting forth my best effort. I graduated in the top 5% of my high school class at St. Thomas High School in Houston. I pole vaulted in high school and I am currently on the UH Track Team. Being disciplined is one of my strengths and I rely on this to manage my time between studies and sports, as both are very important to me. I am also in UH’s Honors College. I love to compete, thus I enjoy the competition in sports, computer programming, and gaming.
Campus and Community Involvement
During high school I volunteered over 500 hours to Camp Hope for children sponsored by the ELCA. I especially enjoyed my position as the Games Director and working and playing with the kids. Also during high school I was a mentor who tutored struggling freshmen during my sophomore through senior years. At UH I have been tutoring friends in Calculus 1 and 2 and Computer Science. Currently I am a member of New Life Lutheran Church in Pearland.
Awards and Honors
In high school I was a member of the National Honor Society, received the St. Thomas Academic Award for Visual Basic programming, was a permanent member of the St. Thomas Club for academic distinction, was an AP Scholar with Distinction, and was a 3-year letterman on the St. Thomas Track Team. During my senior year I was awarded MVP for the track team and in my junior year I received the Eagle heart award for most dedicated athlete. I was also a member of my high school SMR relay team that currently holds the school record. This year I won the bronze medal for pole vaulting in the TAPPS State Track and Field Meet and was named TAPPS Track and Field Academic All-State for Division 5A.
If given the chance, I would like to study abroad in Europe. Right now I am undecided about where specifically, but when the right opportunity arises, I will be there.
I am looking forward to continuing my studies in the area of computer science. There are a multitude of opportunities in this field for research and I have not decided what path I want to take specifically. Right now I am keeping my options open to any research opportunities until I decided what specific avenue I want to take in computer science.
I am very grateful to UH for the Tier One Scholarship. Even though I am only a freshman, I have thought about continuing my education in graduate school. I would also like to remain a part of the UH track team in some way after my years of eligibility are up at UH.
