For as long as I can remember, music has been an integral part of my life; I began studying the piano at age three and, ever since, my interest in music has only grown. I joined band as a percussionist in middle school and later discovered my passion for singing when I joined choir in high school. I have been involved with numerous performing ensembles including The San Antonio Chamber Choir, IlluMen Chorus of Men, and the Youth Orchestras of San Antonio to name a few. I also enjoy performing in bands frequently and currently play piano in my band, Othello. For me, music requires a constant drive for self-improvement. I am inspired often by the performances of others to improve my own performance skills.
Campus and Community InvolvementThroughout most of high school, I volunteered at my old middle school teaching percussion sectionals. I also devoted a large amount of time tutoring for music theory and to other volunteering activities through my school’s choir department. I was also the Student Director for our choir and led rehearsals when the director was absent. I hope to become involved with several organizations at UH.
Awards and Honors
I was selected for the Texas All-State Choir twice in high school. In addition I am the 2013 TMEA Bill Cormack Scholarship recipient and have also been named a TMEA Scholar. I performed at the 2013 ACDA Convention in the San Antonio Chamber Choir directed by Scott MacPherson with the Tallis Scholars. I was also selected as the pianist for the 2013 Cactus Pear Music Festival Young Artist Program and have received many performance prizes at piano competitions throughout Texas.
I am not enrolled in any language classes at UH since I received AP credit for Spanish in high school. I am interested in study abroad, but have not yet given much thought as to where I would like to go yet.
I have not yet selected a topic that I would like to research, but I am interested in the possibility of a project in Music History.
My ultimate goal is to conduct and teach at a University. I plan on attending graduate school to achieve this.
