I am eager to learn, to try new things, to meet new people, and to make a difference in this world. I have a voracious thirst for knowledge and a determination to succeed. I pride myself on being hard working and ambitious, which I get from my parents who have worked so hard and sacrificed so much to provide for me the kind of life I have today. They are definitely my motivation and inspiration. I enjoy dancing, reading, volunteering, but most of all, I love a good quote. One of my favorites is a quote by Ellen Johnson Sirleaf; “If your dreams do not scare you, they are not big enough.” I will admit that I am at times intimidated by my goals and aspirations, but I will never be afraid to put my whole heart into something I have passion for.
Campus and Community Involvement
Volunteering has always been a huge part of my life. As a little 7-year-old, I would cheerfully tag along with my mother to stock shelves at the local food pantry or fastidiously staple together packet after tedious packet for the ministry next door. I faithfully devoted many hours at Southwest Area Ministry for many years. Even after its close, I sought out other places to offer my time and effort. I volunteer with East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry, Keep Sugar Land Beautiful, and Fort Bend Family Promise, to name a few. Most recently, I started volunteering at St. Luke’s Sugar Land Hospital, where I have so far completed over 150 hours. In high school, I held many officer positions. I was secretary for National Honor Society and Medical Professionals of America and treasurer for Spanish National Honor Society and Student Council. I was also a dedicated member of the English Honor Society. I love getting involved, and I am glad to continue to do so at the University of Houston! I am currently a proud member of alpha Kappa Delta Phi International Sorority Inc., the Pre-Pharmacy Association, American Pharmacy Association – Academy of Student Pharmacists, and Vietnamese Student Association.
Awards and Honors
In high school, I always had academic excellence, and I held leadership positions in various honor societies. I was a recipient of the White House Silver Eagle Award, which I received after my health science class successfully hosted a blood drive in which 375 units of blood were donated in a single day.
Being able to immerse yourself in the rich cultures and histories of other places is what excites me the most about studying abroad. The list of places I would like to visit is endless, but I am most intrigued by Greece, Japan, Spain, and France.
I love learning, and I am definitely interested in getting involved in any type of pharmaceutical research. I am very passionate about medicine, and working to discover the source and treatment of disease would be very fulfilling to me. I am so grateful for the many exciting research opportunities the University of Houston has to offer as research is actually something I am interested in pursuing as a career. It is my hope that involvement in research during my undergraduate years will serve as inspiration and motivation not only for myself but for those around me who dream of making a difference.
After completing my prerequisites, I hope to attend the University of Houston College of Pharmacy to earn a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
