I am a quiet person at first, but once you get to know me, I am very vocal about my views. I have been tutoring children in math and reading for three years and teaching has become one of my passions. This summer, I participated in a summer teaching program as a volunteer teacher in Taiwan to teach disadvantaged children English. This experience has motivated me to better myself so that I can help those in need because despite their struggles, the children I taught were able to overcome their hardships and come to class everyday with a smile and willingness to learn.
Campus and Community InvolvementI have volunteered at Methodist Willowbrook hospital and I tutor children in math and reading. I enjoy participating in teaching/leadership programs, such as AIDSummer which is a one month summer teaching program where overseas Taiwanese students volunteer to teach English to disadvantaged children. I love to play tennis and swim.
Awards and Honors
In high school, I received many awards for piano, including 1st place in the Paul Schmitt Piano competition and 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place in the CCMTA Young Artist Piano Solo Competition. I also graduated in the top 3%, am an AP Scholar, and had the highest class average in Algebra II and College Algebra. Other than the Tier One Scholarship, I also received the Honors College scholarship, the Academic Excellence Scholarship.
I would like to take Chinese. I would like to study abroad in Asia, particularly China or Taiwan. I think it would be interesting to be able to learn about a country’s culture and receiving an education in another country would enable me to see how students in other countries learn. Studying abroad has motivated me to improve my ability to read and write in Chinese.
I am interested in research in chemical engineering and the medical field. I would like to begin researching with a professor in my sophomore or junior year and hope to continue the project for as long as possible.
After receiving my undergraduate degree in chemical engineering, I am planning to attend medical school. I hope to become a dermatologist one day.
