I am a total sports fanatic. My favorite is football and I am a huge Houston Texans fan, but I support all of the local teams. I have lived in Houston my whole life and now I am continuing that tradition by going to the University of Houston. I like to get things done quickly so I usually do not fall mercy to procrastination. I am really excited to be a Cougar and I am looking forward to meeting new people and learning along the way.
Campus and Community Involvement
I have volunteered for 3 years at Texas Children’s Hospital. I also spend lots of time tutoring other students in Math at my high school. I have also helped staff at the Hispanic Health Coalition Fair in Houston’s Mason Park. In addition, I take part in the Houston Rockets All-Star Balloting Campaign. I enjoy playing all types of sports. My favorites are football, running, biking, basketball, and tennis. I have run marathons before and did the BP MS 150 bike ride where I biked to Austin to support the fight against Multiple Sclerosis.
Awards and Honors
I have gotten another $3,000 from the Texas Children’s Hospital, where I have volunteered at for over three years. In high school, I have been in the National Honor Society, BETA Club, and on the Honor Roll. I got the Dean’s Award my junior year for overall academic achievements throughout the year. I have also got 4th place at the HOSA State competitions twice. I was also part of an Academic Decathlon team that got 2nd at regional competition.
I have taken four years of Spanish in high school and I am taking that into consideration when I plan for my study abroad. I would like to go to Europe, and Spain is somewhere I would really like to go. It would be a great place for me to strengthen what I learned in high school. I really want to do some study abroad because I have spent my whole life in Houston and other than vacations, I have never really immersed myself in another culture.
I have done a summer of research at the University of Texas Medical Branch on stem cells. I really enjoyed my work in this new and burgeoning field. It would be nice to do something dealing with stem cells because I already know a great deal on the topic, but any topic dealing with medicine would be great to do research on.
I am planning to pursue an MD at the Baylor College of Medicine
