It’s pretty easy to tell by my major that I love theatre. I have been doing it ever since I can remember, and nothing makes me happier. When I’m not involved in a play, though, I love to read. I can sit down with a good book, and then look up and realize I’ve spent the whole day reading. In school, I’m a hard worker and a perfectionist, which can sometimes cause me to over-work. During high school, I was able to participate in an awesome program that allowed me to take college courses at the nearby community college. Through this program I was able to be one of the first two students at my school to graduate with my Associate of Arts degree the same semester that I graduated from high school.
Campus and Community Involvement
I This summer, I was able to get out into the community of Houston, doing what I love. I interned with the Alley Theatre, working with their summer PlayMakers program. Kids aged kindergarten through 5th grade came from all over Houston for these four separate two-week long camps, and I was able to assist several teaching artists in using arts integration to help these children learn both theatre and science skills. I plan to use my summers to continue branching out like this in the future.
Awards and Honors
In addition to the Tier One Scholarship, I also received the Top 10% Scholarship, the Carter Country Outdoor Scholarship, the Conroe Service League Lady Hooper Schaefer Fine Arts Scholarship, and The Nancy Bock Memorial Pavilion Partners Scholarship. I was also on the President’s List for all four semesters I attended Lone Star College, and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the junior college honor society.
I am very excited about the study abroad program, and while I have not made a final decision about where I would like to study, I am very interested in studying in England and learning more about Shakespearian Drama.
As a future theatre teacher and a Psychology minor, I would very much like to research a topic that encompasses both interests.
After receiving my Bachelor’s degree, I would like to teach theatre, and continue my education through the Summer MA for theatre educators.
