I have come to love the thrill of a challenge. There is nothing like the satisfaction of accomplishing something that is difficult. With each bold step I take and experience I gain, I become closer and closer to who I want to be.
At UH, I have learned to not fear. I am not afraid of making mistakes because without learning what is wrong I will never know what is right. I am not afraid of admitting to my mistakes because I want to remember what is wrong. I am not afraid of challenging myself because challenges keep me motivated. I am not afraid of feeling lost because each time the path I want to take becomes a little clearer. I am not afraid of seeking help because without it I cannot grow.
What I am most proud of recently is being able to be proud of who I am. All of my accomplishments in academics and leadership are made possible by this belief in myself and from the help of many mentors and friends.
Campus and Community Involvement
Currently, I am involved with the FOTOS-sponsored Research Cafés, Zero Interest Microfinance at Bauer, and the Student Feminist Organization. I am also the Vice President of the Quad Hall Council.
In my first semester at UH, I have not become regularly involved with any non-profit organization like I was in high school. Hopefully I will be able to build relationships with non-profits through the new business professional organizations I will join this semester.
Awards and Honors
Some of the awards/honors I received from high school are National Merit Commended Scholar, National AP Scholar, AP Scholar with Distinction, Magnificent Mustang, a 4 at VASE, and becoming valedictorian.
I have received the Star of Excellence scholarship from Park Place Motorcars.
I am going to Southeast Asia with the Bauer College this summer to learn about local business practices in China and Vietnam. We will visit local and international businesses, experience the culture, expand the existing microfinance project in Vietnam, and meet UH alumni working in Southeast Asia.
For next winter break, I want to study abroad in Mexico to learn to not only read and write, but also speak Spanish.
Stay tuned for updates.
As of right now I am interested in majoring in Management Information Systems (MIS) and Accounting and am considering pursuing a master’s degree in either.
