I’m a big Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Doctor Who fan. In other words, I’m a nerd. I love music, and Hans Zimmer is my hero. He wrote the scores for movies like Inception, Pirates of the Caribbean, and The DaVinci Code, in case you didn’t know. I love Disney movies, reading, traveling, and doing all sorts of crafty stuff. I like to help others, especially with schoolwork. I have a mild addiction to Dr. Pepper. What inspires to me to work hard is my love of learning and my dream to travel the world someday.
Campus and Community Involvement
I am an active member of National Society of Collegiate Scholars, where I try to volunteer at least once a month. I am also a member of Society of Women in Engineering. I am the company liaison officer for Honors Engineering Program, or Eta Epsilon Rho. I played tennis on the varsity team in High School and volunteered at an elementary school tutoring 3rd graders senior year. Before that, I volunteered at church every Tuesday for two years. Freshman year I was in marching band and was a part of the Freshman All-Region Band. I was also a part of Key Club, National Honor Society, and was the president of my Venture Crew (part of Boy Scouts of America) for two years.
Awards and Honors
I have been on the Dean’s List both semesters of college. In High School I was ranked 11th in my class and graduated Magna Cum Laude. I also receive the Great Conversation Scholarship from the Honors College.
I plan on studying abroad at the University of Limerick in Limerick, Ireland in the Spring of 2014 with API. I want to live abroad in order to really experience the culture of Ireland rather than just a taste. I love travel, and have always known I would study abroad somewhere. It's very tough to find a place to study abroad for engineering students, but I didn't want to sacrifice my graduation date. I chose Limerick, Ireland because that university is one of the few that offers engineering courses. I plan on taking 2 engineering classes, one music class, and 2 liberal arts classes.
One thing I really look forward to while I’m living in Ireland is the excursions. I will probably visit all the tourist destinations I can find, and especially the Cliffs of Moher. I can finally check Scotland off my list when I visit Edinburgh, and I can hear Irelands native language being spoken in the Aran Islands. I can't wait to make some international friends too!
I don’t know what type of research I’ll be interested in, but I think I could easily become passionate about any kind of research. I’d probably like to stay in my major though.
I am considering obtaining a masters degree, but I might like to start my career first in order to gain some experience and decide what I want to specialize in.
