Tyler WatkinsClay Hoster UH Tier One Scholarship Endowment
I am the first member of my immediate family to attend college in order to earn a Bachelor of Science degree and to pursue a career as a medical doctor. Reading, hiking, and playing video games are just a few of my hobbies. My family and friends keep me motivated to stay on the right track and succeed in my academics.
Campus and Community Involvement
I am a member of the Student Governing Board (SGB), Invisible Children, and Houston Undergraduate Research Network (HURN). I am also the Vice-Chair of the Fundraising Committee for SGB.
Awards and Honors
I graduated valedictorian of my high school and received various awards and recognition from my U.I.L. competitions in academics in the fields of debate, science, computer science and current events. I am proud to be a Cougar at the University of Houston, as it continues to impress me on a daily basis. The University, NSM, and the Honors College offered me various scholarships which include: the Academic Excellence Scholarship, the Tier One Scholarship, the NSM Endowed Scholarship, the NSMAA Eckhard Pfeiffer-Alumni, and the Honors College TLL Temple Endowed Leadership Scholarship.
I want to study abroad in Spain and/or Latin America not only to improve my fluency with the Spanish language, but also to experience the rich culture these areas contain first hand.
Cells are fascinating entities and that is why through research I hope to learn more about how they function under certain conditions, specifically human cells. Through the research areas of biochemistry and/or cell and molecular biology, I hope to gain insight.
After I graduate from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry, I plan on attending medical school so I can earn a MD and become a radiologist.
