I have always been interested in pursuing a career in medicine, although I have yet to decide (or stick to) a specialty. I love to observe people and create my own commentary on their life. I can sit for hours in front of the M.D. Anderson library, watching people come and go. I also like to dabble in writing and art (but only drawing).
Campus and Community Involvement
In the summer, I volunteer as a counselor for autistic children at Camp C.A.M.P. Throughout the school year, I volunteer for various events such as Al Amaanah’s distribution of food for refugees. I am a member of the Muslim Student Association, AMSA, and PAIR.
Awards and Honors
I am a member of Houston Premedical Academy and a Welch Summer Research Scholar.
I took Spanish in high school and I hope to learn Arabic throughout college. I want to study abroad in Spain or Morocco, where I can delve into a completely different culture and society.
I am interested in biomedical research and am open to different projects as long as I can work in an active lab with a really motivated mentor. In high school, I conducted research on aptamers, which are nucleic acid species that can rival the properties of antibodies, in the Ellington Laboratory at the University of Texas at Austin. This experience has fueled my passion for research, which I will surely continue throughout college.
I plan to pursue an MD at Baylor College of Medicine.
