Kathryn "Kaye" Stripling UH Tier One Scholarship Endowment
I'm quirky, shy around new people, overly-talkative around people I'm familiar with, and I really like math and science things; I chose biomedical engineering because I wanted to do something that no one else has already done, and I like the idea of learning something new that no one else has discovered yet.
Campus and Community Involvement
I am currently a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS), the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) and the Honor's Engineering Program (HEP, or Eta Epsilon Rho).
Awards and Honors
I graduated 6th in my class with a gold chord, was on the UIL Academic Science team and competed in Ready Writing (placed 2nd in district for science and 1st in ready writing), and was recognized by my high school's school board for an 800 on the math section of the SAT test.
After enrolling at the University of Houston, I have been nominated to join the NSCS and selected to be a Well Gates Scholar.
I really like the idea of studying engineering fields and research in Germany, but I plan to learn German first.
I really want to do research that involves DNA and protein manipulation inside living bacterial cells.
I also like the idea of researching the immune system and its ability to identify foreign particles from native particles that naturally occur in the body.
I plan to go on to graduate school and get a PhD in biomedical engineering.
