About MeI graduated from Barbers Hill High School in 2010 and chose the University of Houston because I wanted to be part of a university on the verge of Tier One status. I like that UH has the diversity of a large university, yet the supportive, close environment that will enable me to form strong bonds with other students and with faculty. I would describe myself as a sincere, generous, and caring individual. I enjoy reading, traveling, writing, working with animals, and spending time with my family and friends. Campus and Community InvolvementOn campus, I am involved with Honors Advocates and Invisible Children. I also enjoy attending Honors College events and group fitness classes at UH’s REC Center. I volunteer for an Australian Shepherd rescue organization, and I plan to begin volunteering at Texas Children’s Hospital in Spring 2012. Awards and HonorsIn high school, I was a member of the National Honor Society, I was one of the top ten members of my graduating class, and I received the AP Scholar with Distinction award. In addition to the Tier One scholarship, I received the Lola Wright Foundation scholarship through the Texas Interscholastic League Foundation. Since I started attending UH, I have received the honor of being on the Dean’s List in Spring 2011. Study AbroadI took Spanish classes in high school, and plan to continue learning Spanish at UH. Therefore, I would like to participate in a study abroad program that would allow me to be immersed in the Spanish language and culture. Alternatively, I would like to volunteer abroad with an organization that provides medical humanitarian aid. ResearchI am interested in research about public health and health care management. My ideas for a research project include: regional attitudes toward healthcare, foreign perception of the American healthcare system, and societal responses to medical crises. Future EndeavorsI am interested in the healthcare field and public health education. I plan to go to graduate school and earn a Master of Health Administration (MHA) degree. Afterward, I plan to work in hospital administration. |
