- Not at this time.
- What are the qualifications for the Tier One Scholarship?
- Visit the eligibility section to view information on the minimum criteria that must be met to be eligible to apply for the Tier One Scholarship.
- How are the SAT scores calculated to determine the minimum of 1300?
- When evaluating a student's SAT scores, only the Critical Reading and Math portions are used (critical reading score + math score = SAT Score).
- I meet the Tier One Scholarship requirements, why have I not been contacted?
- Students who feel they are qualified to compete for the Tier One Scholarship, but have not been contacted should follow the steps:
- Confirm you have been admitted to the University of Houston through your myUH account
- Confirm that the Office of Admissions has received your most recent test scores and transcript(s).
- After completing steps 1 and 2, you feel that you meet the qualifications, then please contact the Tier One Scholarship Coordinator via email at TierOneScholar@uh.edu.
- When and how are students notified if they have been chosen to receive the Tier One Scholarship?
- All students selected as Tier One Scholars will be notified via mail. Students not selected to receive the Tier One Scholarship will automatically receive the University’s Academic Excellence Scholarship.
- I am a current student at the University of Houston that is interested in applying for the Tier One Scholarship. How would I do so?
- The scholarship is not available to current students. The Tier One Scholarship is only available for first time in college (FTIC) freshmen who apply and are admitted to the University of Houston the Fall semester immediately following their high school graduation. Current students should visit the Scholarships page for information on types of scholarships available to current students.
- What is the application deadline for the Tier One Scholarship?
- The application deadlines vary depending upon when the eligible student was invited to apply. Please complete your application as soon as possible but no later than the deadline specified in your letter of invitation.
- Is the Tier One Scholarship open to international students?
- A qualified Tier One candidate must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or hold a Temporary Resident Card (form I-668 or I-668-A) as provided by the Immigration and Reform Control Act of 1986.
- I am graduating early and have been accepted to UH and will be attending in the Spring semester. Do I qualify for the scholarship?
- No, the Tier One Scholarship is only available for first time in college (FTIC) freshmen who apply and are admitted to the University of Houston the Fall semester immediately following their high school graduation.
- Is financial need a consideration for the Tier One Scholarship?
- Selection of Tier One Scholars is merit based. However, we do encourage all students to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) since they may qualify for need-based scholarships and grants in addition to the Tier One Scholarship.
- Does accepting the Tier One Scholarship bind or commit me to attend the University of Houston?
- While accepting the Tier One Scholarship represents your personal commitment to the University of Houston, it is not a binding agreement.
