Minors offered by the College of Technology
Requirements for all Technology Minors
Students may not receive official university recognition in a single degree for having earned both a major and a minor in the same field of study.
The minimum requirements for a minor in the College of Technology are:
- Fifteen to eighteen semester hours including nine advanced hours.
- Six of the nine advanced hours must be in residence.
- A 2.00 minimum cumulative grade point average in all courses attempted in the minor field at the University of Houston.
The GPA for minors in the College of Technology will be calculated based upon all the grades earned in all courses attempted or completed for the minor as defined by the minor requirements listed in the undergraduate catalog.

Construction Management Minors
Minor in Construction Management (CM) provides students with fundamental knowledge and skills expected to pursue a career in the construction industry. Such knowledge and skills include construction documents, cost estimating, construction planning and scheduling, and construction law and ethics. The CM Minor is a natural extension for students in Architecture, Business, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, and similar fields. This minor should assist students in developing a competitive edge in the job market.
To satisfy the requirements for earning a minor in Construction Management, a student must pass the following courses with a grade of "C" or better while completing another undergraduate degree at the University of Houston:
Engineering Technology Minors
Students who select one of the minors listed below must satisfy the general university requirements for a minor as well as the specific minor requirements. Students who have declared a major in Mechanical Engineering Technology (METE) may not declare a minor in Manufacturing Systems.
- Bioinformatics in Biotechnology and Biomedical Sciences Minor
- Bioprocessing in Biomedical and Biopharmaceutical Sciences Minor
- Computer Engineering Technology Minor
- Electrical Power Engineering Technology Minor
- Manufacturing Systems Minor
Human Development and Consumer Sciences Minors
The Human Development and Consumer Sciences Department offers the following minors to students who are interested in furthering their knowledge in the fields of consumer sciences and merchandising. Students who select one of these minors must satisfy the general university requirements for a minor as well as the following specific course requirements:
- Human Development and Consumer Sciences Minor
- Retailing and Consumer Science Minor
- Training and Development Minor
Information and Logistics Technology Minors
Students who select one of these minors must satisfy the general university requirements for a minor as well as the specific minor requirements below.
Minors in the department of Information and Logistics Technology must earn a grade of C or better in all minor courses.
Prerequisites are strictly enforced for all minor courses and may not be listed in the required hours.
