PTI Camp DRIL-QUIP

Learn from the world's leading manufacturers of precision-engineered offshore drilling and production equipment.

Dril-QuipThe Dril-Quip Company designs and manufactures subsea, surface and offshore rig equipment for use by oil and gas companies in offshore areas throughout the world. Drill-Quip is hosting a three-day subsea architecture and mechanical structures classes introducing applications and manufacturing technology, plant equipment and facilities, global links in logistics and procurement.

Partnership and collaboration between Dril-Quip Inc. and University of Houston started in 2008 with a five-day in-company training. After first year the Camp DRIL-QUIP program was adjusted to the students schedule and became three day long, as it is now.

PTI Camp DRIL-QUIP is for UH Students Only. If you pursue a Petroleum Technology Certificate, attending all three days of the Camp and the "Petroleum Industry Overview" is required. The "Petroleum Industry Overview" lecture on main campus prepares students for the Camp. We invite Technology and Engineering, undergraduate and graduate students interested in Petroleum Technology and specifics of the Floating and Subsea Drilling and Completion Systems, and Wellhead Systems design and manufacturing, their deepwater, harsh environments and severe service applications.

We hope to see you at the next PTI Camp DRIL-QUIP!

PTI 2014 Camp DRIL-QUIP

Dril-QuipThe PTI 2014-Camp DRIL-QUIP was a great success. We had 83 students registered while space was limited to only 47. Based on our annual surveys and a very positive feedback from the students regarding the agenda and a content of the Camp, the PTI is working with Dril-Quip Inc. to make adjustments in order to accommodate more students.

  • 09/26/2014 - The first day of the PTI Camp DRIL-QUIP started with lots of enthusiasm. Richard Ramsey, the Company Training Instructor, introduced to the group the basics of offshore facilities, drilling, BOPs, and wellheads. In the afternoon Terrell Burkhart, Training Instructor, gave a presentation to the students on the different products developed by Dril-Quip Inc. for the customers around the world.
  • 10/10/2014 - The second day of the Camp DRIL-QUIP was very exciting, the morning session started with a review of the previous day lectures , and followed by a case study and group exercises. We were learning about offshore well blowout control procedures, special equipment, and riser systems. In the afternoon students were shown a prototype of a blowout preventer (BOP) and well head locking mechanisms. Presentation ended up with a group challenge the students had to complete. After that students continued learning about the riser systems with telescopic joints and later - about different offshore facilities.
  • 10/17/2014 - The final day of the Camp DRIL-QUIP 47 students started with a review presentation and discussion. Divided on groups of 8-10 and accompanied by the Company experts, students had a very impressive and informative tour around the Dril-Quip Inc. plant , manufacturing, testing, and shipping facilities. The day ended with an interactive question-answer session, group photograph, and warm thanks to the Dril-Quip Inc. team from our students.
