Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is the Student Video Network?
The Student Video Network (SVN/Channel 6) is one of seven fee-funded organizations in the University of Houston's Department of Campus Activities. Channel 6 provides students the unique opportunity to develop movies, television shows, commercials, and special features for the small screen, experiencing the entire process from inception to air. Participation is open to all currently enrolled students of the University of Houston, though interviews and/or training may be required before appointment.
So UH students actually make TV shows?
You’ve got it! SVN provides students the opportunity to produce original television shows which air on a closed-circuit (on-campus) network, channel 6. SVN has over 70 members as of Spring 2007 and is growing daily. It is already one of the largest and most diverse student organizations on campus.
Where is SVN located?
We're located in the UC Underground in Room 64. If you can’t find the SVN office, the worker at the front desk of Campus Activities will be happy to point you in the right direction.
So when can I watch?
SVN provides programming which runs 24/7, 365 days of the year.
Where can I watch SVN? I don’t live in the dorms.
SVN airs on channel 6 in the dorms and on all televisions on campus hooked up to the UH cable system, which includes TVs in the UC, UC Satellite, cafeterias areas, and more.
What if my organization wants to get involved with SVN?
SVN’s Commercial Team creates free commercials for registered student organizations so viewers can learn more about how to get involved on campus.
What if my department wants to get involved with SVN?
SVN partners with on-campus departments, such as Coog Crew Sport Show, to raise awareness about the opportunities they provide. Contact SVN’s PR Director to discuss how your department can participate.
Well, what’s going on with SVN this semester?
The shows in production for the spring semester of 2007 cover a diverse set of genres, including sports, talk, reality, women’s interest, music, fashion, and even an original drama.
Sometimes I see movies playing on SVN, what’s that about?
SVN airs a new selection of movies each month ranging from new releases to cult classics. Movies showings are followed by the mini-program “Timmy N' Tommy’s Film Review Show.”
