The University of Houston honors and recognitions include the following:

In January 2011, the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching categorized the University of Houston as a Research University with “very high research activity” (RU/VH), the highest classification given to research universities and the equivalent of Tier One status.

UH was ranked as a National University by U.S. News & World Report in 2013, 2014, and 2015.

UH was ranked one of the nations best colleges by The Princeton Review in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015.

PayScale ranked UH graduates as having higher starting and mid-career salaries than the national average for college graduates.

Red Dot Design Ranking ranked the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture Industrial Design Program among the top 15 in design concept in the Americas and Europe in 2014.

The C.T. Bauer College of Business was ranked second on the list of Top 25 Undergraduate Schools for Entrepreneurs by Entrepreneur Magazine in 2014.

The C.T. Bauer College of Business was ranked fifth for salary earning potential for business graduate students in Texas by PayScale in 2014.

Twelve members of the National Academy of Engineering teach and conduct research at the Cullen College of Engineering.

The UH Moores Concert Chorale won First Prize at the 13th Annual International Chamber Choir Competition in 2013.

Thomson Reuters ranked the faculty in the UH Physics Department among the most highly cited researchers in the world and included them in the list of the "World's Most Influential Scientific Minds" in 2014.

For four years in a row ( 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 ), students in the College of Natural Science and Mathematics have been awarded the nationally coveted Goldwater Scholarship.

The UH College of Technology is designated a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education by the National Security Agency.

U.S. News & World Report has ranked the UH Law Center among the top 10 law schools in the nation for Health Care Law and Intellectual Property Law since 2006.

U.S. News & World Report ranked the UH College of Pharmacy among the Top 50 Graduate Pharmacy Programs in the nation in 2015.

Faculty members in the UH College of Social Work include 1997 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Jody Williams.

U.S. News & World Report ranked the UH College of Social Work among the Top 40 Graduate Social Work Programs in the nation in 2015.
