UH STEM Center Summer Camps

CenterPoint Energy

Students in this one-week camp will work in teams to design their own mission to Mars and engineer a rover while completing engaging Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics (STEAM) activities.

This camp follows a NASA approved curriculum and is taught by Texas certified teachers. students will have the opportunity to develop skills including:

  1. Team Work – Students will collaborate with their peers on a week-long project to design their own mission to mars, construct a model of their habitat, and present their work to an audience.
  2. Problem Solving – Students will complete learning modules and design challenges to push them to think creatively about complex science and engineering problems.
  3. Organization & Strategic Thinking – Students will have to plan carefully and mange resources to develop a project that accomplishes their goals while meeting project constraints.
  4. Communication – Students will complete creative and technical writing activities and develop their own short skits to explain their project.

Camp Dates: June 24-28, 2019

Camp Hours: 8:30AM – 3:30PM

Extended Hours: 3:30PM – 5:00PM (additional charges apply)

The goal of this one-week camp is to increase girls’ interest in the topics of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

Curriculum designed by an INTEL ISEF Finalist and taught by Texas certified teachers, students will have the opportunity to:

  1. Work with a group to conduct a science experiment.
  2. Learn the best questions to ask, ways to collect data, and present their findings.
  3. Work alongside 2019 Science Fair participants to learn what it’s like to compete with your science project.
  4. Learn the science behind sports.
