SIBS Peer Tutoring Job Discription and Application

Peer Tutors are representatives of the University of Houston and the SIBS program. They are required to audit the course they have been assigned, as well as prepare short student quizzes, workshops/reviews where applicable, and keep hours in the tutoring lab. This cannot exceed 20 hours a week, and not less than 12 hours for each week, unless approved by the Director. Tutors are required to work no less than 2 hours and no more than five hours for each time they tutor in the SIBS room.

Tutors are required to make announcements in class for SIBS related information, as well as any other announcements pertaining to this campus. While on campus they are considered as representatives of this program and academic role models.

A 3.5 is required for the course they will tutor and an over-all GPA of 3.00 and with at least a 3.25 as a Biology or Biochemistry major.

Each potential tutor will be interviewed by the Director of the SIBS program and by four peer tutors.

Right now all positions for the Spring-03 semester have been filled. To be considered for future semester SIBS sponsored student positions, please fill out an online application and mail or drop-it off to the SIBS program director.
