1. What is SHPE or what does it stand for?

SHPE is an acronym for Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. SHPE is a professional and student organization at the national level, which helps its members become the leaders of the future.

2. Who can join SHPE?

Anyone is welcome to join SHPE (Yes, even fine-arts majors!). SHPE is a diverse organization, originally founded by Latinos, that welcomes everyone who wants to learn about diversity, everyone who wants to learn how to interact with other people, everyone who wants to gain leadership skills and interviewing skills, and most importantly everyone who wants establish networking relationships with professional individuals in the field of their study.

3. How can I join SHPE?

You can become a member anytime. However, in order to be eligible to participate in national SHPE events such as the SHPE Conference, you must become a register member no later than October 1 of every year.

4. What do I need to do to become a member of SHPE?

You need sign up through the national organization through OneSHPE. There you will be asked to pay a $5 national fee. Another $15 must be payed to any officer of SHPE-UH to cover chapter dues.

5. Who should I contact if I can't make it to the meeting, but I would still like to become a member?

You can contact our secretary by e-mail at any time. You can find our e-board contact info here.

6. Why should I become a member?

You cannot afford to miss the opportunity to meet the professionals and students that the SHPE Conference and RLDC attract. Companies will have the opportunity to recruit the best professionals and students in their fields. SHPE usually holds over 3,500 professionals and college students from all of engineering, math, sciences and business. SHPE-UH provides excellent opportunities for participating students to show their abilities, enthusiasm of leadership, and involvement in a technological community. SHPE-UH provides its members with various outdoors and social activities throughout the academic year.

7. Where can I find more information about SHPE?

We have a national web site www.shpe.org. There you can find general SHPE information, calendars of events, conferences, students and professional chapters information, committees, regional services, contacts and more.

8. How big is SHPE?

SHPE is national organization, and it is divided into 7 regions with more than 6,000 members.

9. What does the SHPE chapter at the University of Houston offer to its members?
