Security Career Fair - June 1st 2011
The University of Houston Department of Public Safety (UHDPS) has a fully functional Security Unit
who work in conjunction with commissioned Police Officers, to enhance overall safety of the campus. As UHDPS police officers patrol the campus, the University’s Security Unit is also on the lookout for suspicious activities or emergency situations.
The Security Officers are hired, trained and supervised by the University Police Department and are assigned to the University as well as System-wide units, who contract for, and fund the positions. On the main campus there are security officers assigned to the University Law Center, Athletic Alumni, Cullen Oaks, MD Anderson Library, Bayou Oaks residential complex, Moody Towers residential complex and residence halls parking lots 1A and 4A. Security Officers work several off campus sites including the Pharmacy Building in the Texas Medical Center, UH Sugar Land, UH System at Cinco Ranch and the University of Houston Victoria.
You may have seen Security Officers monitoring many areas of the UH campus. They are easy to spot as they are uniformed in gray shirts, with the word SECURITY plainly marked on the back of the shirt and black pants. These Security Officers normally will be on foot, but also use carts that are marked “UH SECURITY SERVICES.”
Security officers’ work hours and assignments are customized to meet the unique needs their respective departments or colleges. Typically the UHDPS program administrator will meet with the client to determine unique safety and security needs handled by the Security Officer. These customized tasks are codified in “Post Orders” that direct daily activities of Security Officers.
Departments or colleges interested in hiring Security Officers can contact the Security Services Unit.
