To encourage and support practices that mitigate the effect of adverse events that affect people, property, and the mission of UH as a whole.

Responsibilities

Risk Management serves the University as a partner and resource for the campus community through education, quality customer service, training, and clear communication. Risk Management works towards protecting and preserving the well-being of the University’s students, faculty, staff, visitors, operations, as well as the assets and financial resources of the institution by providing cost efficient tools for balancing risk. 

  • Acting as a resource to the University community on issues such as:
    • Risk identification
    • Loss prevention
    • Workers' compensation
    • General/premises liability
    • Automobile liability
    • Claims recovery
    • All insurance related matters
  • Purchasing and maintaining a competitive insurance program (See Insurance page on our website for more details)
  • Negotiating and settling property, liability, and automobile claims either in house or in conjunction with our insurance carriers and/or Office of General Counsel
  • Allocating insurance expenses to the appropriate campuses and departments
  • Reviewing contract language for insurance requirements
  • Providing accident investigation and loss prevention training
  • Performing risk assessments in order to identify and address known risks
