A method for generating light inside of a tumor to aid in the treatment of cancers by using an engineered material  to convert radiation used during cancer treatments into light that can be used to perform photodynamic therapy.

Competitive Edge

Light will be generated inside the body to perform photodynamic therapy and would allow treatment of body regions which are inaccessible by normal photodynamic procedures. The method also enables two simultaneous treatments from a single source which has the potential advantages of a) an increased effectiveness over either single treatment option and b) elimination of the additional discomfort and inconvenience to the patient undergoing two distinct treatment regimens.
