Plagioclase

Amphibole

Al x-ray map
This rock contains a great variety of mineral grains that are obvious in the back-scattered image. The larger grains are of basic minerals – plagioclase feldspar, orthopyroxene, and amphibole. These and pieces of pre-existing volcanic rock. are set in a groundmass of broadly granitic composition (a fine-grained intergrowth of silica and two feldspars with apatite and zircon).
After exposure, this rock was still as polished as before exposure, implying a much lower degree of corrosion than for the limestone. The S x-ray map suggested no net addition of S to the sample.
