Early or Absentee Voting

If you are going to be out of the county in which you registered to vote on Election Day, you can select one of two options to cast your ballot.  As a registered voter, you can vote by mail or you can vote early in person.

Vote By Mail

You can request an Application for Ballot by Mail from the elections administrator of the county in which you are registered.  This form must be submitted to your county’s elections administrator before the close of business on the seventh day before Election Day.  This year, the deadline is Tuesday, October 27, 2009.  The first day to apply for a ballot by mail is Friday, September 4, 2009.

Vote Early In Person

You can cast your ballot by voting in person at an early polling location in the county in which you are registered to vote. This year’s early voting begins on Monday, October 19, 2009 and ends on Friday, October 30, 2009.  The list of early polling locations is available from the elections administrator of the county in which you are registered to vote.

Early voting locations near the University of Houston for voters registered in Harris County:

• The Palm Center, Justice of the Peace Office/Constable Entry – 5300 Griggs Road

• Fiesta Mart – 8130 Kirby Drive

The UH Student Government Association (SGA) is providing a free shuttle service to the Palm Center to assist registered Harris County voters who wish to vote early in person.  The free shuttles will leave the campus from the front of the University Center (UC) and run to the Palm Center and back Tuesday through Thursday, October 27 -29, 2009.  The free shuttle service will operate from 11am to 2pm all three days of the SGA sponsored program.
