Student Memberships

Students taking one or more semester hours at University of Houston - Main Campus automatically become Campus Recreation and Wellness Center (CRWC) members when they register and pay the student fee. Some students do not pay the CRWC Fee (i.e., students registered "in absentia", students only taking online classes,hybrid classes, co-op students, etc.); these students will need to purchase a membership separately at the current rec fee rate per semester.

Students who enroll in classes but later withdraw from the University will be denied access to the CRWC. Withdrawn students who, based on the date they withdrew, do not get any fees refunded.

Students may sponsor both parents or 2 roommates and dependents under the age of 16 living in the same household. To view more information about sponsoring members, view the Sponsored Membership page.

Continuing Student Memberships

Students not enrolled in classes for the summer term, but were enrolled in the previous spring semester and will be enrolled for the upcoming fall semester are eligible to purchase a CRWC membership at the student rate.

*Students, who withdraw from the university due to being called to active duty by a reserve branch of the United States Armed Forces, but would like to maintain their CRWC membership, are eligible to purchase a previously enrolled student membership at the student rate. Documentation of the call to active military duty and university withdrawal is required.


Faculty, Staff and Retirees

All non-student members are required to sign a University of Houston Release and Indemnification Agreement (waiver).

University of Houston – Main Campus faculty/staff (benefit eligible, .50 FTE or higher) are eligible to purchase a CRWC membership. UH Main Campus employees must secure a Cougar Card that indicates their employment status prior to completing their membership application at the CRWC.

The following individuals are eligible to purchase a CRWC memberships

Payroll Deduction

Current employees are encouraged to sign up for their membership through payroll deduction (applicable only to main campus employees). Memberships paid through payroll deduction are available during the entire year. Memberships are a one year agreement and will renew automatically on an annual basis.

Payroll Deduction Cancellation

A $100 cancellation fee will apply to members who sign up for an annual payroll deduction membership effective January 1, 2016 and do not fulfill their full 12-month agreement. A payroll deduction cancellation form must be submitted by the member 30 days prior to expiration date. The cancellation fee will be applied in one full payment following the cancellation. Those who complete their annual membership agreement may cancel their membership when they choose by simply completing a Membership Cancellation Form and emailing it to crmember@uh.edu.


Alumni / Affiliated Partners

All non-student members are required to sign a University of Houston Release and Indemnification Agreement (waiver).

Effective September 1, 2016, Alumni are eligible to purchase a membership to the CRWC. All alumni will receive an alumni card (digital or hard copy) that must be presented to CRWC Member Services in order to sign up and purchase a membership or day pass. If you have not received your Alumni card, please contact the Alumni Association. As part of the CRWC Membership, alumni members may check out an exercise towel or other equipment, as well as sponsor up to three guests per day. If you do not have a card, please make sure to visit the Alumni Association prior to signing up for a membership.

If you are an alumni who currently has a UHAA membership, you are still eligible to purchase a membership until your UHAA membership expires. Life Members, who have fully paid (no expiration) or have a current life member card, are also eligible to purchase for a membership to the CRWC.

UH Associate Membership

All non-student members are required to sign a University of Houston Release and Indemnification Agreement (waiver).

Individuals affiliated with the University of Houston through one of the following may purchase a CRWC membership. Verification of association is required prior to completing a CRWC membership application.

University of Houston System (UHS) staff

All other system employees (includes all other UH campuses) are eligible to purchase a CRWC membership at the Faculty/Staff rate on a first come first serve basis.

UH Affiliates

Employees of 3rd Party Vendors under contract with University of Houston and UH Board of Regents

Employees of contracted vendors who perform on going service and work for the University of Houston and conduct work on the physical premises of the UH campus or UH leased space are eligible to purchase a CRWC Membership. Examples include: food service and their franchise vendors, bookstore and copy center, bank, UH charter school, and Master Swim, etc.

The sale of these memberships is based on availability of space and services. The Director of Campus Recreation, in consultation with the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, will be responsible for determining when additional sales may interfere with the primary users, the UH students.

UH Program Participants

Participants in UH sponsored programs are eligible for access to the CRWC. UH Main Campus students taking only online classes are also eligible to purchase a membership at the UH student rate. Non-UH students who are officially part of a UH Program are eligible to purchase a CRWC Membership.

Examples of UH participants include: Texas Music Festival, MESET, Upward Bound, Teach for America, ROTC Students, Joint Admission Program, campus ministers, and students that live on the main campus but attend other campuses approved by student housing and residential life.

UH Program Participants are not eligible to sponsor members however, they are permitted to bring guests at the daily guest rate listed above.


Members Needing Assistance

Any members needing the assistance of an attendant while using the CRWC may request access for their attendant at no additional cost. The attendant and member needing assistance must be together at all times. Documentation of the need may be required.
