Healthy Campus Week 2018

Human Resource has partnered with groups all across campus to give you a well rounded and comprehensive #HealthlyUHCampus week.

Monday, September 24

Cougar Jump Around| 11am - 1pm
Look for US throughout the Campus!

Campus Recreation staff will be canvasing the campus throughout the week seeking people to participate in the jump rope relay! Take a few minutes to jump with us and see how many consecutive jumps you can do! Whether it’s only one or 50 or more, join us in an effort to get 45,000 jumps overall from the campus community (1 for every student)! Jump start your wellness during Healthy Campus Week!

Stress Less Yoga| 11:30am - 12pm
MD Anderson Library, Elizabeth D. Rockwell Pavilion, second floor

Curious about Yoga, and what it could do for you? Widely practiced for health and relaxation, Yoga involves different body postures and incorporates breath control and simple meditation. Try a free 30 minute introduction to Yoga for faculty and staff Monday afternoon during Healthy Campus Week. Dress comfortably, and bring a mat if you have one. (We will have a few on hand for those who don’t have one.) Come relax and de-stress with us!

Meal Prep Workshop 11:45am - 12:45pm
SC - Midtown Room

Are you spending way too much time and money buying lunch instead of bringing your own? If so, learn how to prepare a convenient week of healthy lunches yourself --for less money and with more nutritional value! You might just be surprised how easy it is to eat healthy for less. Sample some free healthy snacks while supplies last!

All Day TEA Tuesdays| 12 - 1pm
CRWC - Wellness Suite 1038

Visit the UH Wellness Center anytime any Tuesday throughout the semester for a complimentary cup of tea. This Tuesday, take a few minutes to drop by, pause and breathe deep, relax and enjoy a cup of calming chamomile tea. While there, learn more about Meditation Thursdays, open to students, faculty and staff every Thursday of the semester.

Sled Push Challenge 4- 6pm
CRWC Members Only- Fitness Zone, second floor

Join us for the Campus Sled Push Challenge! Come experience the new Technogym Skill Mill Console at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center. This innovative, non-motorized treadmill can train all the body’s energy systems and is perfect for improving agility, dexterity, power and endurance. See how far you can push the simulated sled within 30 seconds! The top 3 times in the male and female divisions receive a Fitness Program T-shirt.

UH Farmer's Market| 12 - 4pm
Butler Plaza

On Wednesday shop for locally sourced and produced food and other items at the UH Farmers Market, 12 – 4 PM, in Butler Plaza! Meet the new Chartwell’s Director of Wellness and Sustainability, Dolores Woods, RD, and get your nutrition questions answered. Don’t forget; you can now use Cougar Cash for purchases!

Mindfulness Meditation 12:15 - 12:45pm

Whether you’re striving for better focus or just need to hit pause and relax your mind for a few minutes, Mindfulness Meditation may be the ticket for you! Join UH Wellness for a 30 minute Mindfulness Meditation session open to all UH faculty, staff, and students. Come learn what it’s all about and how this simple practice can benefit you. No experience necessary and no pre-registration required – just show up and join in!
