Associate Director, Programs & Assessments
Campus Recreation is pleased to announce that Mirum Washington-White joined the staff as the Associate Director for Programs and Assessment on August 1, 2016.
As the associate director Washington-White will manage all elements of programming and program staff. Those programs include Fitness, Family Programs, Intramural Sports, Sports Clubs and Outdoor Adventure as well as partnering with areas in DSAES and the university community to provide exceptional programs that will enrich and engage students, faculty and staff at UH. Additionally, Washington-White will spearhead the department’s assessment efforts, including peer benchmarking, program evaluations, and learning outcomes.
He brings more than 25 years of experience and knowledge in higher education, sports and recreation administration. He has been involved in numerous facility construction projects, employee development student mentorship, and program management.
Prior to University of Houston Mirum was the Senior Assistant Director of Sports Programs for the University of Arizona, Department of Campus Recreation who’s facility was ranked as a top 10 Collegiate Recreation Centers in the US. He was responsible for the Sports Division which included Intramural Sports, Sport Clubs, Hockey, Athletic Training and Student Conduct. At Arizona he worked to create a culture of team cohesion and department success.
Mirum has a long history in the recreational sports profession that begins as a student intramural basketball official for Texas Christian University. He served as a Graduate Assistant for Campus Recreation Service at the University of Maryland (College Park). His National Intramural Recreational Sports (NIRSA) credentials include: Certified Recreational Sports Specialist (CRSS), Registry of Collegiate Recreational Sports Professionals (RCRSP), graduate of the School of Recreational Sports Management and graduate of the Executive Institute.
Mirum has been an active member of the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) for 25 years. He has been involved with a variety of events and has made numerous presentations at the local, state, regional and national level. His depth of commitment to the profession includes Vice President: Region VI, Board of Director (At Large), Services Corporation Board Member, State Director, Chairperson Student Professional Development Committee, Chairperson Student Leadership and Academic Awards, Regional Conference Coordinator, Annual Conference Program Committee, POC Program Committee and ERSL Mentor-ship Program just to name a few.
In the community he has served as a high school basketball official (AIA), youth basketball coach (YMCA), youth football coach (TYFSF), President for the Oro Valley Dolphins Youth Football and Spirit Association, American Youth Football (AYF) Ambassador, Executive Vice President and Commissioner for the Tucson Youth Football and Spirit Federation and advisory board member for the Nova Home Loans Arizona Bowl.
Washington-White received his B.S. degree from Texas Christian University in Criminal Justice Administration.
He is married to Kendal and has two son’s Morgan and Robert.
