An answer to commuting’s “what-ifs”

Members of the UH Commuter Club are covered by our Emergency Ride Home (ERH) program. This program is designed to answer the “what if…” concerns associated with alternative transportation options.

The UH Emergency Ride Home program is designed to provide a way home when an unexpected emergency arises. Once per semester, up to 3 times per year, PTS will cover the cost of getting you home in the event of a qualified need.


Defining a Qualified Need
PTS will cover your ERH up to 3 times per year for a qualified need. Examples include:
- Accident or injury to you or an immediate family member (child, spouse/partner, parent)
- Unexpected sickness for you or an immediate family member
- Major individual catastrophe, like a fire, flood or gas leak at your home
- Your carpool or vanpool leaves campus unexpectedly


Details of the ERH Program
If you live within 25 miles of the UH campus PTS will pay for a taxi to take you home. If you live more than 25 miles from the UH Campus PTS will provide a Connect by Hertz vehicle for one day at no cost.

To use the ERH service call 713-743-1097 and we will arrange the appropriate transportation option for you. Please be advised that there may be a wait time of up to 30 minutes for a taxi to arrive or for a reservation to be processed.

ERH will not be offered for an on-the-job injury requiring immediate medical attention; soiled or damaged clothing; region-wide disasters or evacuations (like hurricanes); minor inconveniences (your child missed the bus, etc.) or if you are working scheduled overtime, or missed your carpool. In these situations contact PTS and we will work to determine the best solution, including utilizing METRO’s Guaranteed Ride Home Program, or other alternatives.

METRO GUARANTEED RIDE HOME PROGRAM

METRO riders and STAR Vanpool members may qualify for METRO’s Guaranteed Ride Home Program, which provides similar benefits as the UH Emergency Ride Home program. For more details about the METRO Guaranteed Ride Home Program visit ridemetro.org.
