The Dean of Graduate and Professional Studies reports directly to the Senior Vice President and Provost and oversees all graduate, professional, post-baccalaureate, and post-doctoral programs and concerns, articulating a vision of excellence for these areas. With the advisory recommendations of the Graduate & Professional Studies Council, the Dean formulates new policies and strengthens existing ones, guiding the direction of UH graduate and professional programs. The Dean is charged with overseeing the comprehensive, periodic review and evaluation of all graduate and professional programs and directs the administration of fellowship, scholarship and assistantship programs to enhance the recruitment and retention of outstanding students.
The Dean reviews and rules on issues involving graduate and professional programs and students including admissions, tuition waivers, transfer credit, grievances and other petitions for exceptions to university academic requirements. As a member of the Provost's Cabinet and the Council of Deans, the Dean is involved in the planning and budgeting processes for the University; especially those that impact graduate and professional education. His office is responsible for the Graduate & Professional Studies Catalog and the Graduate & Professional Studies home page.
