Nomination for the
NEW PROFESSIONAL ADVISING AWARD
For Excellence in Undergraduate Academic Advising
Spring 2013

DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS:
Friday, February 8, 2013, 12:00 PM (Noon)

The University Advising Award Committee will select one undergraduate advisor to receive the New Professional Advising Award. The purpose of the award is to recognize staff who have demonstrated outstanding performance in advising undergraduate students early in their professional careers. The recipient will receive a plaque and monetary award of $1000.

Eligibility: Staff who have a minimum of two years and not more than five years of work in academic advising undergraduate students at the University of Houston. This award may be presented only once to a recipient.

Nomination Procedure: Submit a letter of recommendation not to exceed two pages. Please provide evidence of the following criteria in your letter:

• Excellence in undergraduate student advising for a minimum of two years and not more than five years
• Contributions to the improvement of the quality of academic advising either within the unit and/or campus wide
• Demonstration of a concerned attitude toward students
• Mastery of institutional regulations, policies and procedures
• Mastery and utilization of appropriate information and referral sources
• Participation in and support of advisor development programs
• Commitment to accessibility of advisors to students
• Excellence in creating or maintaining advising structures and procedures, using advising technology, communication, or other special skills

Nominations may be supported by as many as four letters of recommendation (a student letter is strongly encouraged) and other supporting material such as résumé or Curriculum Vitae. Save nomination form and any letters in the following order as one .pdf document (labeled by last name of nominee).
