Dear University of Houston Faculty and Staff:
I am pleased to announce Dr. Jack M. Fletcher, Hugh Roy and Lillie Cranz Cullen Distinguished Professor of Psychology, as the 2017 Esther Farfel Award recipient. The award is given in recognition of excellent teaching, research, scholarship, and service.
The Farfel Award was presented April 20 at the Faculty Excellence Awards Dinner, recognizing the extraordinary talents and gifts of our faculty. The University recognized 29 recipients of the Teaching Excellence Award across 9 categories, 1 recipient of the Global Award, 3 recipients of the Mentoring Undergraduate Research Award, 6 recipients of the Excellence in Research, Scholarship, or Creative Activity Award, and 2 new recipients of the Moores Professorship.
Dr. Fletcher has directed or collaborated on over $125 million in funded research, receiving funding from the National Institute of Health, the U.S. Department of Education, and the National Science Foundation. His scholarly output includes over 400 peer-reviewed manuscripts, 100 chapters in edited volumes, and three books. He has been a board certified neuropsychologist for the past 30 years, and has been at the University of Houston since 1979.
His colleague and nominator David Francis noted "Jack has reshaped the landscape of research on children and adults with disabilities through his amazing productivity, his commitment to scientific principles, and his unparalleled willingness to collaborate with and mentor other researchers, from beginning students to seasoned scholars."
