Assistant Professor - Cyber Security- Tenure-Track

The College of Technology at the University of Houston invites applications for a full-time, 9-rnonth/academic year, tenure track faculty position at the assistant professor level in the area of cyber security, with particular focus on cyber security for industrial control systems. This position is in the Information, Logistics and Technology department, in the Computer Information Systems (CIS) group.

Requirements:

Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree at the time of hire in Information Systems/Technology, Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or in a related area with outstanding academic credentials that clearly demonstrate their ability to conduct independent and successful research and teach courses in information security. Candidates must have excellent communication skills with a commitment to engage in a first-rate undergraduate and graduate education. Responsibilities for the positions include research, teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and development of programs.

The academic responsibilities at UH include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the Computer Information Systems program, service and research. The responsibilities include research, service and teaching activities in resilience and security for cyber-physical systems in the general area of energy and critical infrastructures.

We seek an outstanding candidate who will conduct research and contribute to a nationally competitive externally-funded research program at the University of Houston. The faculty member's activities will focus on computer security with a preferred emphasis cyber security for industrial control systems.

The University of Houston has been recognized as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAEIAE) by the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security. The activities of the CAEJAE are aligned with the Center for Information Security Research and Education (CISRE) within the College of Technology. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to both the CAElAE program and CISRE.

The successful candidate will have a passion for teaching and mentoring students. The security program is characterized by hands-on activities that translate theory into practice.

Minimum Qualifications:

An earned Ph.D. degree in Information Systems/Technology, Computer Science,

Electrical/Computer Engineering, or in a related area with an emphasis in information security

Demonstrated success in research publications and presentations in computer security with a preferred emphasis in cyber security for industrial control systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

Evidence of successful grant procurement related to cyber security.

Excellent written and oral communications skills.

Experience collaborating with industry on research.

Experience with industrial control systems security

Demonstrated ability to work in a team to achieve project goals.

Commitment to working collaboratively with a network of faculty, institutions and industry involved in both the CAEIAE and CISRE programs.

Experience in college-level teaching, mentoring and research consistent with appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor.
