Director of Field Education - Clinical Faculty - Non-Tenure Track
POSITION: Director of Field Education, Clinical faculty, non-tenure track, 12 month appointment
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for all aspects of the planning and administration of the social work field education program.
LOCATION: The University of Houston's Graduate College of Social Work (GCSW) is the only graduate social work program in the fourth largest city in America. Houston is an international and multi-cultural city and the University and College reflecting this diversity as well. The University of Houston is recognized as one of the most racially and ethnically diverse research institutions in the nation. The GCSW is located-on the University of Houston main campus, in close proximity to the Texas Medical Center, which is home to The MD Anderson Cancer Center, the Menninger Clinic, UT Medical School, Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, and Baylor College of Medicine. Research is primarily under the auspices of the College's Center for Drug and Social Policy Research, The Child and Family Center for Innovative Research, and the Office of Community Projects. As a graduate only College, the GCSW enrolls approximately 350 M.S.W. and 40 Ph.D. students each year. Reflecting the diversity of the University and the Texas Gulf Coast Region community, the fall 2011 incoming class speaks 20 different languages.
DESCRIPTION: The primary function of the Director of Field Education is to support the academic and teaching mission of the college. The Director is responsible for overseeing all functions of the field education program including: facilitating field teaching and student learning, monitoring student progress and agency educational opportunities, fostering partnerships between the College and practice community, and evaluating student achievements and field instructor and liaison efforts. Other duties include budgetary responsibilities, some teaching responsibilities, planning and implementing field instructor training, developing field education' resources, collecting and analyzing field data, agency/site development, daily supervision of field education faculty and staff. The Director staffs the GCSW's Field Practicum Advisory Committee, supervising the AGIFT program, and participates on the College's MSW Curriculum Committee and Field Committee.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required - Master's Degree in Social Work and five or more years of post-master's practice experience; and a professional license (LMSW, LMSW-AP or LCSW preferred); preference given to individuals with previous experience as a field educator and/or previous work in a social work education program's field education office, and employment in a graduate social work program.
